The Editor’s Perspective

The Editor’s Perspective is a guest session at my writing programme, and participants who are part of my current batches may join at no additional cost. However, the event is also open to non-participants on payment of a fee.

About the speaker and the event

The question most parents ask me is how to get their children’s work published. What is the process? Do we need an editor?
Children, too, have thousands of questions – about editing, proofreading, illustrating, designing, and finally, publishing a book. And that is why when Daphne Lee, consulting editor at Scholastic Asia, offered to do a session at my creative writing programme, I jumped at her offer.

I’ve worked closely with Daphne on two of my books – Dragonflies, Jigsaws and Seashells and Red Eyes. While working with her, I have grown to appreciate just how passionate she is about promoting and supporting the work of writers and illustrators of children’s and young adult literature with Asian content. Having Daphne as my editor has been a treat! 
Apart from her work at Scholastic Asia, Daphne freelances as an editor and creative writing teacher. She also writes stories, and is especially interested in Asian folklore, myths, and supernatural beliefs. Her first collection of short stories, Bright Landscapes, was published by Malaysian indie press Laras 99 in 2019.

During the one-hour interaction, Daphne will tell us what it means to be an editor. How is a book made? How does editing work? This event will be a Q&A session, rather than a workshop. Come prepared with any questions you have about editing and publishing!
