Online Creative Writing Programme (Ages 9-11) – October 23 – Friday Batch

October 6, 2023, 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

₹15000

REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS WRITING PROGRAMME. The next batch begins in April 2024. Keep an eye on my Workshop Calendar to stay updated. If you would like to receive email notifications about my programmes, please fill this form. Alternatively, follow me on social media – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter – for regular updates.

My writing courses are conducted just twice a year – in April and in October. Each one is 12 weeks long and comprises twelve online interactions and access to a private, secure forum, where participants share work and read one another’s work. I provide feedback each time a participant submits something on the forum, and I encourage the children to rewrite and edit until their work reaches its best potential. In this sense, it is an intensive programme that requires participants to log in multiple times a week, write regularly and share relevant ideas and opinions on the forum.

If I have a minimum of four participants for each batch, I also organise up to three guest sessions, which are open to non-participants on payment of a registration fee, but free for those who are part of my writing programmes. Take a look at the three guest sessions I organised during the previous edition of the creative writing programme:

Outline

In the past, we’ve worked with poetry, drama, nonfiction and stories. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-magazine (WORDS) for the first time, and it was such a rewarding experience that it will be a regular feature of my writing programmes henceforth. Take a look at the first issue here, the second one here, and the third one here. As you will see, the issues seem to be getting longer and longer, both because the participants have been more active on the forum and because I’ve had more and more children joining in!

To create the January 2024 issue of WORDS, here are a few things we will work on.

  • Poetry – I love working on poetry at my writing programmes (take a look at this to learn why). During the last edition, we worked on hay (na)kus, nonets, fractured fairytales and free verse. This time, we’ll work on other kinds of poetry, both familiar and less familiar, like limericks, triolets, acrostics and quatrains!
  • Memes, captions and texts with limited characters – For the first time, we will work on writing forms that are created and consumed by the second. Writing briefly is an art, and more and more often, I’ve been meeting children who love writing memes. Let’s see how this goes!
  • Stories – Everyone loves a good story. We’ve worked on fantasy, mystery, mythopoeia, adventure, dystopia, climate fiction … This time, we will work on new ideas, creating stories in which characters from our world meet well-known fictional characters in the public domain, stories set on other planets, and stories where technology and human beings collide or co-exist.
