Online Creative Writing Programme (Ages 9-11) – October 22

The next one will begin in April 2023, and I will open for registrations in the first week of March.
These writing courses are conducted just twice a year – in April and in October. Each one is 12 weeks long and comprises twelve online interactions and access to a private, secure forum, where participants share work and provide feedback to one another. I provide feedback each time a participant shares work, and I encourage the children to rewrite and edit until their work reaches its best potential. In this sense, it is an intensive programme that requires participants to log in multiple times a week, write regularly and share relevant ideas and opinions on the forum.
If I have a minimum of four participants for each batch, I also organize guest sessions, which are open to non-participants on payment of a registration fee, but free for those who are part of my programmes. Outline
Each writing programme deals with some aspects of writing. We’ve worked with poetry, drama, nonfiction and stories in the past. During the April 2022 edition, we created an e-zine for the first time. It was a rewarding experience, as the participants had a clear goal towards which they worked. Take a look at the zine here.
This time, we will create the second issue of our e-zine. As we write, here are a few things we will work on.
- Plays – Does anyone still read plays? How can I write a play that is both engaging and easy to read?
- The rush to publish – What is publishing? What avenues are open to young writers? How can we make our work reach its best potential?
- Feedback – Every writer treasures feedback. Beta readers and critique partners are important! Through this course, we will look at the role feedback plays in shaping our writing, and the ways in which we can provide constructive feedback to one another.
